Fertilizing

Recipe for "Fertilizer Cakes" from Chase Rosade:

2 parts cottonseed meal (or soybean meal - available at local "country" co-op store)
1 part dried blood meal (available at local nurseries)
1 part bonemeal (available at local nurseries)
Add a little powdered Sevin (an insecticide) and an animal repellent

Wiring

Trees tend to go through a good growth spurt both in the spring and fall.

Remember to check your trees for potential wire damage. If you notice that the wire is starting to dig into the bark because the branch is thickening, remove the wire carefully with wire cutters so that you do not damage the bark any more than necessary.
