Journal Articles

by Dierk Neugebauer

Your Journal has been published in one format or another since January of 1964. That makes this coming year our 40th anniversary!

Many of our members have been involved with the society for numerous years, and, I am sure, have memories that could be shared with those of us who are more recent arrivals. Would you consider taking some time and jotting some of these memories down on paper so that they can be printed here for others to read? Wouldn't it be great to have such a series of articles appearing throughout the year?

If you can see yourself making such a contribution, please make sure that I receive your material by Nov 15th of this year at the latest. That will give us plenty of time to include it in the January issue.

While we are on the subject of member-written articles, you may have noticed that, generally speaking, only a small handfull of members manage to get themselves published in the Journal on a regular basis. The vast, silent majority are not seen in print.

Why is that?

Are my standards too high?

If you suspected that the latter is not the case, you are probably correct. The real problem seems to be that people just do not have the time to sit down and take the trouble to write for our publication.

Three articles in this issue have been gleaned from the internet and reproduced with permission. One has been written by our busy president, Bob Wilcox.

I am hoping that you will take the time to "pen" some words about your unique bonsai experience, problems or successes. Only by involving yourself can we make the Journal both more interesting and relevant.
