Good points are raised in this article. However, I have had great difficulty getting to the point where I have to select which stand to use: I have been totally unable to find any stands for sale in the GTA.
As I actually need a stand currently to elevate a Ponytail Palm so its branches/leaves don't touch the table, I have searched at nurseries, bonsai stores, and oriental knick-knack stores. Nothing. One place that will go nameless but is located not too far off Yonge Street had cracked and damaged stands, garbage that should have been put in the dumpster, not tagged with a $25 price.
Making stands myself is not an option: last time I did woodwork I was in Grade 9 and made a small bookshelf in the time it took the rest of my classmates to build canoes...
The only stand I have is one brought back by my son while he was living in Nagano. I'd love to be able to select an appropriate stand for my various trees, but first I'll have to find a place to buy them!

Editorial Response
Hi Rem,
Thank you for responding in writing to the "stands" article.
You've identified a major supply problem when it comes to purchasing stands for one's trees. That may be why some of us occasionally get together in the winter to work on such projects. As far as I know, no one in the club is making stands for sale, but you never know; some of the woodworkers are rather prolific!
Your best bet for locating a stand in your area is likely in Chinatown, or in some of the oriental "antique" stores that are scattered (so I'm told) throughout the city.
Some of the vendors who advertise on our web site might also be worth calling to see what they have, and to inquire about "delivery charges" that might apply if you can't get there in person.
Best regards,
Dierk
