Styling Demo

by Dierk Neugebauer

As well as having a good "Show 'N Tell" session at our last November meeting, we also watched three interesting styling demos put on by Bob Wilcox, Norman Haddrick, and John Biel.

Below you see the before and after pictures of their efforts.

All trees were raffled off at the meeting.

Bob Wilcox is seen here starting the styling of a rather large San Jose garden juniper.
Here you see the finished product after an hour and a half's styling. Originally Bob had planned a different top for the tree, but, ...

Norman Haddrick is obviously enjoying himself as he is working on one of two Procumbens Nana junipers. John Biel was working on the other one.
The pictures here do not do the styling justice - I've got to go back to that digital camera manual to get better results in the future!

Another view of the same juniper. Surprisingly, Norman even managed to get the tree potted up in a pot he donated to the raffle. Well done, Norman!
John Biel was surrounded by an enthussiastic crowd as he worked on the other Procumbens juniper. You can see that already a good part of the early pruning has taken place.
The finished tree - John has tilted it at the angle the tree should be potted at when the time comes.

There was a fourth juniper, a blauwii, that was raffled off on the same evening. That tree is mentioned at the beginning of the "Show 'N Tell" article in this issue.

Generally speaking, there was a great deal of interest in the styling demos, and I suspect many members are hoping that we will be able to repeat this event. All trees for this occasion were provided to the club by Grace Wicht.
