TIPS FROM THE POTTING SHED - number 2

by Nubbin

The scoop on all the dirt, or how to make a big scoop (or small) for dirt or gravel.

If you have ever had to look around for your lone and expensive scoop, here's the answer.

Make them out of old vinegar bottles with their long handles, or Javex bottles for the big stuff. Small scoops can be made from large pill bottles.

First collect your old plastic bottles and then make with a marker or with a tape a line at about a 45° slant. Cut along this line and voila, a scoop. It may not be as elegant as that shiny new stainless steel one that you waited so long to arrive from Japan, but it certainly is cheaper, and you may can even be so scoop affluent that one can be left in each bin. This will save on that journey from the potting shed to the house, only to discover that it was where you left it, in the potting shed.
