GENERAL MEETING – Larch Wiring Demo and Discussion
Topic - Larch Wiring Demo and Discussion
GENERAL MEETING
As we embark on our busy bonsai season, let’s take a look at wiring, specifically Larches. Larches are best wired in Spring when the leaf buds are ready to sprout and the bare branches can still be seen. We’ll walk through how to trim and wire larix bonsai, pruning and selecting branches, the selection of wire, wiring the trunk, washing the branches, arranging the branches, etc.. When building the basic canopy, it’s a good idea to wire all young branches every 1-2 years, noting that larch branches thicken rapidly and wire should be inspected regularly to ensure it is not cutting in.

BONSAI 101 - Soil & Re-potting
BONSAI 101
Soil + Re-potting
Cultivating bonsai can be a beautiful aesthetic endeavour, but, we have to remember that the health of the tree comes first. Find out when bonsais need to be repotted — when the nutrient supply has been cut off by enveloping roots as well as allowing water to drain to prevent roots from rotting, the type of soil to use, soil structure and potting mixtures.
